Our Board of Directors

Lydia Forssander-Song

Lydia has taught English literature at Trinity Western University since 1998. Her area of specialization is postcolonial literature.

Lydia was born in Malaysia, so her interest in FRINGE comes from a sense of “home” as well as a hunger for social justice in small, localized, and practical ways. She also loves adventure in the great outdoors, so whenever she can get away, she hikes, skis, kayaks, sails, and bikes.

Sharyna Lim

Sharyna worked as a Registered Nurse in the local Candian healthcare field before she decided to stay home and support the growing family unit. She has had experience in home care, long-term mental health and general long-term care.

Sharyna’s vision for FRINGE is to bring enduring change into communities served and the volunteers that serve them, making sure to touch hearts and enrich lives with each encounter.

Given the opportunity, she finds delight in getting crafty with crocheting, cooking, and other tasteful projects.

Hao Yen Lim

Hao Yen works as a Clinical Counsellor and Clinical Director of Minda Counselling, operated by Lim Social Enterprises Inc. He continues to serve fellow Canadians and others worldwide in the areas of mental health.

Hao Yen’s historical passion lies in wanting to help those in need, ensuring some growth experience in the process. His vision for FRINGE is to expand what can be done in Malaysia, providing for vulnerable communities.

When not working, Hao Yen enjoys spending quality time with his beloved wife, and three daughters. He also partakes in some video gaming and is fond of a good Wes Anderson movie every so often.

Caleb Nakasaki

Caleb graduated in spring 2024 with a Master’s Degree in Planning and now works as a city planner in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

His vision for FRINGE is to develop a stable and continuous way to support the Orang Asli people of Malaysia. Although FRINGE is starting with building houses, encouraging sustainable communities asks that we have an eye out for both those immediate pain points and a long-term collaborative community vision.

In his free time, Caleb loves to volunteer and cycle through new hobbies (right now it’s climbing).

Jonas Schuetz

Jonas has worked as an accountant at a small accounting firm in Langley since 2019.

His personal vision for Fringe is to have 50 successful project trips to Malaysia in the next 10 years.

Outside of work, Jonas enjoys spending time with friends and family. He is a big food fan and enjoys the amazing variety available in the greater Vancouver area.
